Governor's Palace Gardens, Williamsburg, Virginia
Surrounding the residence of the Royal Governor are formal gardens, among the handsomest in America.  They include and English maze, bowling green, pleached arbors and floral displays.  Gardens and Palace are open daily.

Supper Room Governor's Palace
Lighting the candles in the Supper Room of the Governor's Palace where eighteenth century guests refreshed themselves after an evening of dancing in the Ballroom.  The Chinese hand-painted rice paper on the wall, and the pagoda like form over the door show how China and India influenced the taste of the day.  Open daily.

This holly maze in the Governor's Palace Gardens is patterned after the maze at Hampton Court.  In the background is a lofty tree-shaded mount built above the ice house that served the Palace.
