The Cascades - Jackson, Michigan

The World famous Cascades were built by the William and Matilda Sparks Foundation and were first operated in May 1932.  The Cascades are operated nightly through the summer from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Nightly throughout the summer as the gloom of dusk thickens, water splashes down the concrete falls, powerful lights flash on and a colorful kaleidoscopic scene of breath-taking beauty appears before the eyes of awe-inspired thousands.

The world famous Cascades were built by The William and Matilda Sparks Foundation and were first operated May 9, 1932.  The Cascades were operated nightly through the summers until they were forced to close down during the War.  Following the death of Mr. Sparks they were donated to the County of Jackson.

Only spectacle of its kind in the World.  The famous illuminated Cascades are nightly viewed by increasing thousands from all parts of the globe.  Water forms and colors change constantly.  to illuminate the falls and fountains 1, 230 lamps are required that furnish 240,000 watts of light. Bruton Parish Church, Williamsburg, Virginia
Bruton Parish Church, completed in 1715, is a fine example of the colonial church in America.  the walls and windows of the church are original, but much of the interior woodwork was torn out during the nineteenth century.  The interior, partioally restored in 1905, and more completely in 1938, once again resembles its eighteenth- century appearance.

Bruton Parish Church, Williamsburg, Virginia
This view, which recreates and eighteenth-century service in Bruton Parish Church, was taken from the Paramount-Colonial Williamsburg film "Williamsburg - The Story of a Patriot."  The historic church, now restored to its eighteenth-century appearance, was the Court Church of the Virginia colony.  Here many great American patriots, including George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Marshall, and Patrick Henry, worshipped.  It has been in continuous use since colonial days.

North Carolina

This colossal rock, leaning over the deep dimensions of John's River Gorge, derives its name from the fact that at nearly all times a strong wind is blowing at this point.  Here wind currents defy the laws of Nature, and it is said that if a light object, such as a handkerchief, is thrown from the rock, it will be blown back by the force of the wind sweeping up from the gorge below - "Believe it or not!"
