Dining Room - "The Breakers"
Ochre Point - Newport, R.I.
Rising two full stories, this magnificent dining room far surpasses in size and lavish decoration those in other Newport mansions. Its columns of red alabaster with bronze corinthian capitols support an elaborate succession of guilded cornices, mouldings and garlands with life-sized figures in the ceiling arches. The huge crystal chandeliers were both piped for gas and wired for electricity. "The Breakers", is now owned by the Preservation Society of Newport and open to visitors May 1 to October 31.

ReplyDeleteGoa Tour
I toured all the Newport, R.I. mansions way back in 1975. I never forgot them and hope to be able to visit them again.
