I don't recall ever having been to Weeki Wachee, but it looks like fun. They have mermaid shows in the spring, a riverboat cruise down the Weeki Wachee River, and animal shows. Perhaps it will have to be an upcoming trip. They still seem to be open and you can visit their site at
http://weekiwachee.com.
The Weeki Wachee Mermaids pose for photographers with the Mermaid Statues which adorn the newly decorated front of Weeki Wachee, just north of Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Clearwater, on US19.
I can't remember if I ever actually went, but I at least knew about it from commercials at an early age. Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie worked there briefly on an episode of one of their "reality" series.
ReplyDeleteI actually just read this morning that Paris & Nicole had been there on their show.
ReplyDeleteIf I remember correctly, Paris played a mermaid and Nicole was a turtle.
ReplyDeleteThey probably should have both been Clownfish.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I love turtles, I was surprised by the decision for Nicole to dress as one, instead of a mermaid - the emblem of the park. I wondered if it reflected some insecurity or spite from Paris. Of course, their friendship did not survive their TV career together. Isn't it strange how they are famous for being famous? So indicative of our age of heightened media-consciousness. That said, I have to go to a lecture on marketing theatre through social media at 1:30 pm.
