North Carolina

This colossal rock, leaning over the deep dimensions of John's River Gorge, derives its name from the fact that at nearly all times a strong wind is blowing at this point.  Here wind currents defy the laws of Nature, and it is said that if a light object, such as a handkerchief, is thrown from the rock, it will be blown back by the force of the wind sweeping up from the gorge below - "Believe it or not!"

North Carolina Waterfalls

In the Southern Appalachian Mountains people living here are of pure Anglo-Saxon stock.  They believe they have the right to make corn liquor or "Moonshine" and in a remote section our photographer ran into the one portrayed on this card.  Had he been carrying a gun instead of a camera there may have been one photographer less and no picture, as these moonshiners fear and hate "revenuers" and would not hesitate to shoot one.  This man willingly posed for the picture.  In making moonshine it is necessary to have cold water, and as you can see there is an oversupply available here.

Pearson's Falls can be seen from U.S. Highway No. 176 in the Saluda-Tryon section of western North Carolina.

North Carolina

Black Bears
Black Bears actually can be cinnamon, blue gray, or creamy white while the glacier bear is pale gray to blue in color.  Weight varies as much as color as they range from 200-500 lbs.  Average height is 25 inches at shoulder and 60 inches long.  Except for a mother and her cubs together most bears travel alone.  All bears hibernate from late fall to early spring.

The Cardinal and Dogwood Blossoms provide a colorful complementary contrast as the official bird and flower of this marvelous friendly state.
