Here it is that Broadway begins and runs north as far as the city limits.  Many transatlantic steamship companies are located here.  Standard Oil Building at 26 Broadway; Adams Express Building at 61 Broadway.

This is a general view of the public lobby in the General Assembly Building at the United nations Headquarters.
I can't look at this view and not think of Cary Grant as Roger Thornhill and his fateful visit to the UN in Alfred Hitchcock's North By Northwest.

A view of the General Assembly Hall in the United Nations Headquarters.  Those are seats for 626 delegates, 270 observers, 234 members of the press and 800 visitors.  The murals in the General Assembly Hall are the work of the French artist Fernand Leger.

A general view of the Security Council Chamber in the United Nations Headquarters, New York.  The Chamber was designed by Arnstein Arneberg of Norway and the large mural was painted by the Norwegian artist Per Krohg.  The Norwegian Government contributed toward the cost of the decoration of the Chamber.

This building is on Madison Avenue, facing Madison Square.  It is built of magnificent carved marble, most elegantly finished.  the building occupies an entire block, is 52 stories high, 700 feet high.  Home office of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.

Riverside Church
A beautiful modernized thirteenth century French Gothic edifice on Riverside Drive and 122nd Street almost opposite Grant's Tomb.  It rises to a height of 19 stories and above the 19th story is the belfry with the carillon of 65 bells.  Inside this magnificent masterpiece of architecture the ancient and modern designs meet without clashing in their imposing dignity.

In the heart of New York's financial district.  One of the most valuable sites in the world, dedicated in 1697, enlarged in 1737 and destroyed by fire in 1776.  Second church dedicated in 1790 in the prescence of George Washington.  Makers of American history are buried in the graveyards at the side.

The Little Church Around The Corner
Founded in 1848, this church has world-wide fame for its beautiful Brides' Altar, memorial windows to noted actors, quaint lychgate, fine paintings and ancient carvings.

Statue of Liberty on Bedloe's Island in New York Bay 1 1/4 miles form the Battery, a colossal figure of Liberty enlightening the World.  It lights the harbor with an electric torch held 306 feet above the water; the highest beacon in the world.  Was presented to America by the French nation.

The Financial Center of the World
Federal Reserve Bank in the foreground.  In these skyscrapers many billions of dollars change hands every year and world projects are financed.  Cities Service, Bank of Manhattan, City Bank and the Farmers Trust Company's Buildings may be seen in the background.

The Flatiron Building
The Flatiron Building at the junction of Broadway and Fifth Avenue at 23rd Street, was the first great steel structure reaching the height of 300 feet.  While others have risen to double the geight and more, the Flatiron Building will always be one of the prominent landmarks of New York City.  The Flatiron Building is part of New York's attractive night scene.

The Times Building
The Times Building, located at the intersection of Broadway, Seventh Avenue and 42nd Street, which location is popularly known as Times Square.  With the general movement and building activity up-town, Times Square might well be termed tha actual centre of New york to-day.  Broadway and 42nd Street is undoubtedly the busiest spot in New York City.  The Times Building is the home of the New York Times, New York City's most popular morning paper.

Woolworth Building and Post Office, New York City.
New York may justly be proud of its skyscrapers, especially the Woolworth Building, for no other city in the world can boast of more modern achievements.  Besides being the tallest building in the world, it is situated in the heart of the business section, close to the old post office.  Approximately one million people pass to and fro each day.

Many photographs have been taken of this wonderful building.  This one, taken at dawn, shows its real beauty and impressive height to best advantage.  Its magnificent Tower is the first object to catch the rays of the sun, and, gradually, the entire building is bathed in a golden tint its crowded surroundings it stand out as a work of art and symbol of American enterprise and spirit.
