Highland Hammock, Florida

Scene in Highland Hammock, Florida

Though I haven't been there in probably 25 years, Highland Hammock State Park always had some great hiking trails and a boardwalk through a cypress swamp.  Visit their website for more information on facilities at Highlands Hammock State Park.

  1. OMG! The source of my obsessive fear/fascination with crocodilians.

  2. That's true, I do remember seeing large reptiles while walking on the boardwalk section. It always scared me as a kid even though there were sufficent barriers to keep them away.

  3. I think we went in 1975 or 1976. As I recall, the boardwalk lacked railings on one side. I did not actually see alligators, but other people did. I became irrationally traumatized that I would fall into the water and be treated like UGA, FSU or The 'Canes. I stayed freaked out for the rest of the day, but I vaguely remember something funny happened later when my father attempted to pet an armadillo.
