North Carolina Waterfalls

In the Southern Appalachian Mountains people living here are of pure Anglo-Saxon stock.  They believe they have the right to make corn liquor or "Moonshine" and in a remote section our photographer ran into the one portrayed on this card.  Had he been carrying a gun instead of a camera there may have been one photographer less and no picture, as these moonshiners fear and hate "revenuers" and would not hesitate to shoot one.  This man willingly posed for the picture.  In making moonshine it is necessary to have cold water, and as you can see there is an oversupply available here.

Pearson's Falls can be seen from U.S. Highway No. 176 in the Saluda-Tryon section of western North Carolina.

Florida Flora

Scenes of beauty are a commonplace in Florida.  Everywhere flowering plants, shrubs, vines and trees brighten the landscape with lovely color and their fragrance fills the air.  This wall of Sweet Pea is an unusually picturesque sight.

Stately Palms and Australian Pines, Florida

It's a pleasant drive to the Orchid Jungle - 25 miles south of Miami.  Take U.S. Route No. 1.  There one can see exotic orchids from far parts of the world and beautiful native Florida orchids growing wild on huge oak trees.

Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

Located near the site of Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg is this beautiful building which houses the famous painting of the Battle of Gettysburg.  Operated by the U.S. Department of the Interior, it is one of the highlights of a visit to Gettysburg.
(Note:  the painting is now housed in a new building and this fabulous Richard Neutra designed modern masterpiece sits vacant with an unclear future.)

Devil's Den Ledge
Gettysburg, Pa.
Showing the Red Bud (Judas) in bloom.  One of the natural landmarks that attract attention of tourists is the immense ledge of rocks in front of Round Top.  It furnished shelter for the Confederate Sharpshooters who were picking off the gunners at the Batteries on Little Round Top.

The National Cemetery, Gettysburg, Pa.
This aerial view clearly shows the rows of markers for both the known and unknown Northern dead who were interned here.  The known dead total 3,555 and are buried in eighteen different groups, each state having its own individual section.  The New York State Monument is in the foreground and in the rear and center stands the National Monument which is near the spot wehre Lincoln delivered his immortal speech of dedication and is the nation's tribute to her sons who gave their lives as the price of victory on the field at Gettysburg.

The Everglades

American Alligators roam widely through the Everglades wetlands during the summer rainy season and concentrate around drying pools during the winter and spring dry season.  They feed opportunistically on whatever aquatic animals are locally most common, including fish, crayfish, turtles, apple snails, water birds, and small mammals.
