Silver Springs, Florida

Today's postcards focus on underwater shots. I saw diver's in the water here a couple of times when I was a kid but I don't have any specific memory if they were male or female and I believe they were in scuba gear and not dressed like these ladies. The springs were also used for the 50's television show "Sea Hunt" starring Lloyd Bridges.

  1. Until these postings, I did not realize Silver Springs included aspects similar to both Cypress Gardens and Weeki Wachee.

The James Bond-like fetishism here astounds me, but I must admit succumbing to entrancement.

How did Betty Frazee drink a Coke underwater? Without drowning? I don't even know how to open my eyes underwater or hold my breath.

I think they filmed Tarzan movies at Silver Springs, too.

    1. My favorite is the one of the young woman drinking a Coke underwater. With enough training & practice, it was easy to do.

  3. Really! I loved THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON as a little girl. When I referenced James Bond, I had no idea three of his movies were filmed there. It makes sense to shoot CROSS CREEK at the same location as THE YEARLING. LEGEND always seemed so other-worldly, I never realized it was our own backyard. I wonder which parts of REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE show Silver Springs. Apart from interiors, all I can remember are the abandoned house with the drained swimming pool and the planetarium. Several of the other titles are unfamiliar to me. Thank you for posting this list.
