This 352 foot Greek Doric column is located on South Bass Island in Lake Erie. The column is dedicated to Oliver Hazard Perry's naval victory over the British in the Battle of Lake Erie and to international peace through arbitration, negotiation and disarmament. The American and Canadian flags fly side by side, symbolizing the lasting peace between these two neighboring countries.
