Fontana Dam, North Carolina

View of Fontana Dam and the Observation Building.  It is the highest Dam in Eastern America rising 400 feet above bedrock.  Nearly 3,000,000 cubic yards of concrete were used to complete the structure.  For the benefit of visitors a strategically placed Observation Building has been built where refreshments and souvenirs may be obtained.  It is located 2 miles from Fontana Village Resort.

Fontana Dam, as observed from the West Side Observation Point, was constructed in 1942-1945 and used almost 3,000,000 cubic yards of cement.  Fontana Dam is the highest dam (480 feet) in eastern America.
