Hampton, Georgia

Cotton picking time in the Southland.

Modern travel.

A tobacco drying shed.

  1. Wow! Hampton, Georgia. Racist nostalgia for tourists? I think our household had a similar photo with a raw ball of cotton on a stem in a small plastic bag stapled to the card.

I wonder what current conditions are like in the cotton industry, because I surely buy a lot of the stuff. I have read and watched programs about certain areas of this country that never desegregated, which have changed little as a result of the 1960's. When I went to Tennessee this February, I saw suggestions of greater oppression there than I usually notice in IPC.
