Florida Key Lime Pie

The Key Lime Pie is nationally known as one of Florida's outstanding desserts.  During the early days on the Florida Keys, thrifty wives of "conch" settlers used juice from wild limes to make up this originally recipe.

Key Lime Pie and fruit from a Key Lime Tree.  The tartness of these Key Limes are unique in the Florida Keys, and the limes are not found in any other place.

The early settlers along the Florida keys had no means of refrigeration, and as a result, had very little in the way of desserts.  the Key Lime Pie, made from Key Limes that are grown in the Florida Keys, and have a very tart taste due to the rock formation of the Keys, is a result of this search for a sweet that would be made easily from the produce at hand.  the recipe has been handed down from generation to generation since the 18th century.

Key Lime pie is a favorite dessert in Florida's Out Islands, the fabulous Florida Keys.
