Both fought valiantly for the causes they believed in. The major battles that they opposed each other were: “Wilderness, Spotsylvania Courthouse, Cold Harbor, The siege of Petersburg, Appomattox Courthouse”. Lee’s surrender to Grant, at Appomattox, brought an end to the terrible fighting in Virginia of the Civil War.
